Mindful paws
or mindful pause
or mindful pause with paws?
Welcome to our site! In addition to offering the best pet care services, home services and supplies we are thrilled to introduce you to Mindful Paws!
Mindful Paws was developed in 2017 as a journal to help incorporate mindfulness into the lives of those we are blessed to reach through our work with animals. We hope you enjoy this journey through our site.
Are you looking forward to plopping in bed after a long and tiresome day? Perhaps you are struggling daily to handle stress, anxiety, illness and pain. Our society has taught us to just keep going full speed and we will make it. But the truth is, we all need to slow down and smell the roses. What if you had the chance to learn a better way to handle everything you are carrying? Perhaps I can introduce you to some of the people and methods that have greatly influenced my ability to slow down, look around and truly cherish my life.
Today, I'd like to introduce you to Jon Kabat-Zinn. He is the creator of the stress reduction program that many are now learning about called mindfulness-based stress reduction or MBSR. Not only is he a Professor of Medicine Emeritus, but he is also famed as the Creator of both the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare and Society.
Who cares right? I guess we've all gotten to that point where labels are just a thing... so let's forget what he is and instead focus on what he has brilliantly offered to us. Check out one of his many videos at https://youtu.be/2n7FOBFMvXg
Perhaps you are looking for that special someone to show you the way. I remember when my journey began. I was going a hundred miles an hour in five different directions. I stumbled upon a meditation class led by Bani Aello. It was that very day that my life changed. I walked out of that class feeling a sense of peace that I didn't know existed. The stress that I had carried into the class was converted into a sense of calm like a warm ocean breeze. My confidence skyrocketed!
That was several years ago and since that time I have had the privilege to experience meditation, mindfulness training and yoga with Bani! Not only does she offer local classes in the Rochester New York area, but she also is a fabulous Retreat Leader. So whether you are interested in checking out her local classes or her fabulous retreats, I promise you will not be disappointed. I personally invite you to take a look at all she has to offer at www.Baniaello.com

"The Sweetness of Dogs” by Mary Oliver from Dog Songs
What do you say, Percy? I am thinking
of sitting out on the sand to watch
the moon rise. It’s full tonight.
So we go
and the moon rises, so beautiful it
makes me shudder, makes me think about
time and space, makes me take
measure of myself: one iota
pondering heaven. Thus we sit, myself
thinking how grateful I am for the moon’s
perfect beauty and also, oh! how rich
it is to love the world. Percy, meanwhile,
leans against me and gazes up
into my face. As though I were just as wonderful
as the perfect moon.
"Threading the Needle" by Larry Schug
To find (or lose) yourself
seek the place
you go where you go
when you thread a needle;
to the timeless, seamless place
where there exists only
the fingers on your one hand
holding the thread,
wetted in your mouth,
twisted to a point;
the fingers on your other hand
holding a needle
eye to eye,
breathless.
Only when the thread
passes through the needle’s eye
do you return
to your turbulent, breathing life.

—Ernest Hemingway (author, For Whom the Bell Tolls)
“A cat can be trusted to purr when she is pleased, which is more than can be said for human beings.”
—William Ralph Inge (author, Outspoken Essays)
“I regard cats as one of the great joys in the world. I see them as a gift of highest order.”
—Trisha McCagh (animal communicator)

A powerful set of lyrics from the song Time Stand Still by Rush
"...Time stand still
I'm not looking back
But I want to look around me now
Time stands still
See more of the people
And the places that surround me now
Freeze this moment
A little bit longer
Make each sensation
A little bit stronger
Make each impression
A little bit stronger
Freeze this motion
A little bit longer
The innocence slips away
The innocence slips away
Time stands still
Time stands still
I'm not looking back
But I want to look around me now
See more of the people
And the places that surround me now
Time stands still"
